'The job is done' - Pep Guardiola opens up on Man City Champions League triumph

Pep Guardiola says he has completed his mission at Manchester City, admitting “the job is done” after lifting the Champions League and completing the Treble.

The Blues boss underlined how he will “disconnect” from football this summer but will refocus when the time is right before gearing up for the 2023/24 season. The Champions League was the one trophy absent from City’s trophy cabinet having gone so close in 2021.

The Catalan coach penned a new contract extension in November, keeping him at the club until 2025 with the hopes of bringing the Champions League back to the Etihad.

Now the achievement has been completed, Guardiola says he has completed his task at City, likening it to Lionel Messi’s World Cup glory in December.

Guardiola told Ole: “I think the job is done. I don't want to compare myself with Leo [Messi] but there is an image of him in the World Cup - 'that's it, that's it'.

“No? Well, in this club I have to know that we're there. This Champions League already gives meaning to the five Premier Leagues that we won.

“But it is also true that we need to go home, disconnect more than a little and knowing all of us, when the adrenaline starts again, we will plug in again."

Guardiola has won 14 pieces of silverware in seven seasons at City including two FA Cups, four League Cups and two Community Shields.

He will be able to add as many as seven next season with the Community Shield, UEFA Super Cup and the FIFA Club
