Why Manchester United icon Rio Ferdinand joked he wanted to 'strangle' Sergio Aguero after Man City Champions League win

Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand joked he wanted to strangle Sergio Aguero because of the Manchester City icon's famous goal against QPR in 2012.

The former Argentina striker scored the last-minute winner for City against the London club which secured the Blues' first Premier League title and condemned United to second spot. Ferdinand was part of the Sir Alex Ferguson team that had won at Sunderland moments before Aguero's goal at the Etihad.

Ferdinand and Aguero met at another historic City moment on Saturday night as the pair witnessed Pep Guardiola's team win the Champions League for the first time. The Blues' legend joined BT Sport pitchside after he had celebrated with his former club.

As he approached the desk, Ferdinand said: "I've got to be honest, you broke my heart man [with the goal that won City the Premier League title], I can't even look at you," to which Aguero responded: "Are you ok?"

Ferdinand jokingly replied: "I'll strangle you," as the panel burst into laughter. Once the jokes had subsided, Aguero reflected on City's accomplishment.

"First I am so happy because, for me, I love City," he said. "That moment, the last Champions League we lose, I am so happy."

Cesc Fabregas then translated Aguero's thoughts further, adding: "He feels very proud about being here because he is one of the players that started off everything and he feels just privileged about the whole process. He gets emotional to remember the whole thing.

"Two years ago they lost the final, they were disappointed, they bounced back and they’re here again finally winning it. It shows the whole process was worth it."
