Pep Guardiola says 'job is done' at Man City as treble parade takes place

Guardiola on treble

Pep Guardiola says he has completed his mission at Manchester City, admitting “the job is done” after lifting the Champions League and completing the Treble.

The Blues boss underlined how he will “disconnect” from football this summer but will refocus when the time is right before gearing up for the 2023/24 season. The Champions League was the one trophy absent from City’s trophy cabinet having gone so close in 2021.

Guardiola had faced criticism for City's failures in Europe's elite competition, the manager often playing on it sarcastically as he batted away the suggestion that European glory was the thorn in his side at City.

The Catalan coach penned a new contract extension in November, keeping him at the club until 2025 with the hopes of bringing the Champions League back to the Etihad.

Treble parade takes place

Manchester City celebrated their remarkable treble triumph through the streets of Manchester with a parade.

City won their first-ever Champions League trophy on Saturday after they overcame a spirited Inter side to win 1-0.

The nerves had clearly got to Pep Guardiola's team but one moment of quality was enough to make the difference when Rodri fired into the goal with a measured but powerful finish.

Having already wrapped up the Premier League title and defeated Manchester United in the FA Cup final a week earlier at Wembley, it means City have equalled their neighbours' famous achievement of 1999 by becoming just the second English team to win the treble.
