The indisputable proof Rangers theory pedalled by Michael Beale is utter guff as striker search intensifies
Failing to back up what you say is a sure fire way of looking daft, especially in Scottish football. We keep the receipts up here.
It's fair to say Michael Beale's attempts to bolster Rangers' attack fell flat. An expensive summer recruitment drive was meant to take the Light Blues up a level and get them closer to Celtic. It didn't, and all it did was propel Beale down the marble staircase and out the door less than a year since he swanned back in. He's managed to talk himself into a new gig at Sunderland soon enough after getting the Ibrox heave ho, but their fans appear sceptical from the start.
Despite claiming he hadn't spent anywhere near the amounts that were being reported (which was shown to be bluster when the club accounts were published), that din't mean Beale had assembled his new-look Gers squad on a shoestring. Big bucks were dropped on those tasked with replacing Alfredo Morelos' goals after the Colombian left on a free.
Over £12million was spent to bring in Cyriel Dessers, Sam Lammers and Danilo from Cremonese, Atalanta and Feyenoord respectively. The Brazilian 'boasted' a record of 14 goals in his previous three season before moving to Glasgow. Dessers had hit 12 in the same time, while poor old Lammers had managed just three in his past four campaigns.
When you pay those sorts of figures for numbers like that, something doesn't add up. Beale had been asked why he was taking a look at some of the regular scorers closer to home. Kevin Nisbet's Hibs record was impressive, Lawrence Shankland broke records at Hearts while Bojan Miovski helped fire Aberdeen to Europe.
The Rangers boss said they'd "had a look," but there was "no-one out there better than what we have." Whether that was snobbery or arrogance,
