The holiday destinations near Greater Manchester named most relaxing in the UK

Four holiday destinations near Greater Manchester have been named among the most relaxing locations for a staycation in the UK. The Lake District, Peak District, Snowdonia and the Yorkshire Dales have all made the top 10 in a recent poll revealing the most relaxing places to visit.

While a holiday on a distant tropical island sounds the like the ideal way to unwind, for many of us a staycation is just as effective when it comes to relaxing - not to mention often cheaper and easier too. It comes after a survey by Sykes Holiday Cottages of 2,000 British holidaymakers revealed that 29 per cent said that they find going on a staycation less stressful than travelling abroad.

Shorter journeys and being able to use British currency were among some of the reasons Brits prefer to holiday at home. Although 22per cent said that they find trips abroad more relaxing, six in ten reported that they prefer to visit places where they speak the same language.

While Cornwall nabbed the number one spot, the Lake District came in at number two. It’s easy to see how it’s one of the most relaxing locations with serene lakes and idyllic mountain views. The Scottish Highlands ranked third, but the Yorkshire Dales - a destination much closer to home - came in fourth.

Rounding off the top ten are the Peak District and Snowdonia respectively, which both offer miles upon miles of stunning countryside to explore, not to mention dozens of picturesque villages with a slower pace of life. Below is the list in full so you can plan your next relaxing getaway.
