The five Manchester United players who would benefit from loan moves this season

Manchester United will hold fire on further signings until one or two departures have been sanctioned.

With plans coming together for the Premier League season, Erik ten Hag and his recruitment team have welcomed Andre Onana, Mason Mount and Rasmus Hojlund to the club. Dean Henderson, Eric Bailly, Scott McTominay and the rarely-used Donny van de Beek are among those who could be used to generate funds to splash out elsewhere.

However, development and progression are also at the forefront in thinking. Young and old, there are several stars who could benefit from a loan move away from Old Trafford throughout this campaign.

As things stand, Will Fish is the only 'senior' departure in that bracket after moving to Hibernian in a temporary deal. With the countdown to September 1 ongoing, here are five others who could follow him;

Alvaro Fernandez: Having made 39 appearances in the Championship with Preston last season, the young Spanish full-back dipped his toes into senior football and will be desperate to further his experience this campaign. But with Tyrell Malacia injured right now, any proposals surrounding Fernandez might well be delayed.

Dean Henderson: Surely not another loan move? As things stand, a permanent switch away from Old Trafford has yet to materialise and the last thing Henderson will want - or deserve - is another 12 months with his gloves packed away on the bench. A loan with obligation to buy has been mooted with Nottingham Forest initially understood to be keen on re-signing the Academy graduate.
