The down-to-earth Manchester United legend who is there at every single game

For 23 years Alan Keegan has had the best seat in Old Trafford. A lifelong Manchester United fan, Keegan is a familiar voice to many fans thanks to his job as the stadium announcer.

Affectionately known as the ‘Voice of Old Trafford', from tense nights in Europe to record breaking goals the man has seen a thing or two in the over the last two decades.

Alan, 60, from Longsight, got the gig as the Old Trafford announcer thanks to a friend who recommended him for the role when the job was up for grabs. Despite being a season ticket holder, he was actually working with the enemy at the time at Manchester City in a training scheme with hopes of getting into media.

The first football match he called was at a Dennis Irwin testimonial against City, but his official game was a Premier League match against Newcastle in a two-nil win for United with Ronny Johnsen and Andrew Cole as scorers.

“It’s been an amazing journey. I never thought when I got the job I’d still be there 23 years later.” He told the Manchester Evening News.

“It’s been an incredible journey, a journey that’s evolved, it’s been life changing. I’m still excited now as I was on the first day.”

Alan has a long list of favourite matches at the Old Trafford over the years. But the one that stood out to him the was a Champions League semi-final clash against the mighty Barcelona.
