Crimson red flares decorated the curve of the hosts' stadium as the teams emerged, with a minute's silence for their former president.

Then the action got underway and Mirko Ivanic opened the scoring inside 10 minutes, racing away to gee up the home fans even further, not that it was needed.

Chances came and went for Red Star but weren't taken and Gers landed a sucker punch in the second half through Ryan Kent.

But it was the Govan side who really got to celebrate before heading off the pitch with a few more flares lighting the way for good measure.

Victorious manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst told BT Sport: "I’m very proud.

"The belief is only getting stronger. We take it round by round and there are some big names left in the draw.

"But again it’s two big games to develop ourselves as a team and to go one stage further will be the goal, but the opponent will be stronger each round we go.
