The 3 rule changes Rangers pyro show could spark as Dutch FA offer template to 'first step'

The Dutch FA have kickstarted action against clubs with fans who use pyrotechnics in the stands - and it could offer the SPFL a template going forward.

During Rangers' clash with Dundee, the players were ordered to leave the pitch by ref Kevin Clancy just two minutes into the Scottish Premiership game when a display of pyro from the Ibrox fans forced a fire alarm to go off. It has since sparked a debate over the use of flares by supporters with the SPFL, Police Scotland and the Scottish Government all expressing concerns over the pyro show at Dens Park.

In the Netherlands, flares have taken centre stage this season with Feyenoord 's clash with Ajax being abandoned as hooligans caused chaos by lobbing flares onto the pitch which sparked two suspensions before the game was struck off with the Amsterdam outfit trailing 3-0. The Dutch giants were hit with sanctions as well as the game being abandoned.

Dutch football expert Elko Born offered an insight into the actions of the Dutch FA on BBC Sportsound - and how they could be applied in Scotland. He said: "It's a pretty big issue in the Netherlands. For quite a while fireworks and pyrotechnics not much was done against it.

"Some way or another, Dutch fans managed to smuggle pyrotechnics into Dutch football stadiums and they have been for years now, but this season it has become quite problematic. The Dutch FA are really thinking about ways to stop it.
