The 11-word prediction about Manchester United loanee Jadon Sancho didn't come true

"He will show the world that Jadon Sancho is really back," said Borussia Dortmund's sporting director.

Speaking ahead of the Champions League final, Dortmund chief Sebastian Kehl predicted Sancho would produce a talismanic performance against Real Madrid.

The winger was anonymous in the FA Cup final defeat against Manchester City at Wembley in June 2023 and was quiet again upon his return to the national stadium in London.

Sancho recorded just 39 touches of the ball and completed one successful dribble in the Champions League final, meaning his Wembley hoodoo continued.

The narrative around Sancho heading into the Champions League final was fascinating, as there were wide suggestions he'd returned to the best version of himself.

That came on the back of his excellent display in the first leg of the Champions League semi-final against Paris Saint-Germain, which the masses saw on TNT Sports.

In that game, Sancho became the first player to complete 10+ dribbles in a Champions League semi-final match across the last eight seasons, he had the beating of Nuno Mendes and looked to have developed a yard of pace that was lacking in his displays for Manchester United.

It was the version of Sancho that United thought they were signing. It was an impressive performance, although TNT Sports' commentators went overboard with their praise during the game and PSG's Mendes is certainly not one of Europe's best left-backs.

Darren Fletcher - the broadcaster, not the former United midfielder - and Ally McCoist waxed lyrical about Sancho but hardly mentioned him just a few weeks later at Wembley.
