I exposed sackable secrets from Man Utd dressing room – I got hauled into manager’s office

Manchester United icon Brian McClair admitted he risked the sack at Old Trafford with his magazine column he'd write while playing at the club.

The Scot had a little side project which saw him write a column that went into the club's monthly 'Inside United' magazine. Seemingly given free rein to write what he liked, he would craftily get funny stories published and share club secrets to give United fans a peak behind the curtain.

Sir Alex Ferguson also contributed a column, albeit with much more caution regarding the content shared. Now 60, McClair admitted, on reflection, that he regularly risked the wrath of Ferguson with his column.

Speaking on his podcast 'Life With Brian', when questioned about whether he ever worried about losing his job over the stories he shared, McClair said: "I still don't know how I managed it.

"Even if there was some favouritism going on, I still don't know how, to this day, I managed to get away with some of the things I got away with. I still cast my mind back to some of the things that I did that were possibly sackable."

McClair added his cheeky column in the United magazine became a hit among players and staff, with some even feeding him insider stories for publication. "It's not that I didn't care, but I had nobody to be beholden to," McClair said, via the Mirror.
