'That's what I like' - McGilligan left buzzing over 'special' Orta job at Leeds

After a relegation-threatened campaign last season, the Whites’ director of football has been busy bolstering Jesse Marsch’s side ahead of the American’s first full campaign at Elland Road.

Attacking midfielder Brenden Aaronson signed for £24.7m before being followed through the door by Danish right-back and RB Salzburg teammate Rasmus Kristensen in a £10m deal. Bayern Munich midfielder Marc Roca arrived for a similar fee, while Tyler Adams and Darko Gyabi have also been brought in to reinforce the midfield following the loss of Kalvin Phillips to Manchester City.

The blow of losing talisman Raphinha has been softened by the arrival of Colombian winger Luis Sinisterra, and the Yorkshire club are believed to be closing in on their seventh addition of the summer, with Sonny Perkins set to sign.

Amid the former West Ham starlet’s impending arrival, McGilligan has been singing the praises of Orta and how he identifies Leeds’ transfer targets.

Speaking on the One Leeds Fan Channel, he said:

“I think everything that he [Perkins] has really does fit into this system seamlessly, and that’s what I like, what Victor Orta’s doing at the minute – he’s buying system-based players, not just flashy players.

“Leeds United have got a tier list every single time and we’re bringing players in who fit the Jesse Marsch system, which I do like.

“I think we’ve given Victor Orta a lot of criticism – of course, with me included – but I do think what he’s doing this window is quite special and hopefully we’re going to see the fruits of that in this Premier League campaign.”
