Tesco shoppers confused after spotting strange 'dagger' symbol on popular item
Tesco shoppers have been speculating online about the meaning of a strange symbol spotted on a packet of pork cocktail sausages.
The last thing you want to find before tucking into a juicy snack is a mysterious icon on the label. But that is exactly what happened to this sausage shopper.
As we learn more about how food impacts our health, we tend to be conscious about how our food is made and what ingredients are involved. So finding a strange symbol on the label was rather off putting for this shopper.

On this packet of Tesco 30 Pork Cocktail Sausages, there is a small cross symbol next to the product title which has left shoppers confused.
The concerned customer turned to Reddit to find the answer, but the replies were very contrasting and not all too comforting.
One user joked that the cross might refer to the pigs being christened, which is rather unlikely. One user jested: "It means the pig has been baptised".
A few users referred to the 2013 controversy when products from Tesco and other supermarkets had to be taken off the shelves due to the presence of horsemeat. One Reddit user joked: “Possibly won’t contain horse”.
Another user suggested more realistically that the cross might be used in place of an asterisk leading to further information on the back of the label.
Some people have suggested that the symbol could relate to the salt content of the products, but this is usually flagged in the nutrition label both on the front and the back. There were also suggestions in the comments that it could relate to the pork content, or that the sausages have beef casings.
