Cheapest UK supermarket named for October out of Aldi, Tesco, Asda and more
The cheapest UK supermarket in October across the eight big names has been named.
Consumer group Which? has ranked the stores in order from cheapest to most expensive by checking the price of the same products in Aldi, Lidl (with and without Lidl Plus), Tesco (with and without a Clubcard), Asda, Sainsbury’s (with and without Nectar), Morrisons (with and without More), Ocado and Waitrose.
In October 2024 the most expensive supermarket was Waitrose, costing £142.39 for 62 items. The cheapest was Aldi at £111.66 which is a whopping £30.73 difference, or 28%.

Every month so far this year, Aldi has come out as the cheapest supermarket according to the Which? research.
German supermarket Lidl has followed closely behind each month. In October, Lidl was only 41p more expensive than Aldi.
Last month (September 2024) Which? picked a shopping list of 59 branded and own-label groceries. Aldi came out the cheapest at £102.68, closely followed by Lidl at £103.86 then Asda at £112.19. Waitrose came out the most expensive at £130.37 for the same 59 items.
In 2023, Aldi was the Which? cheapest supermarket for 11 months out of the year, only being beaten once by Lidl in October.
Waitrose came out as the most expensive supermarket every month out of 2023, and so far this year it has done the same.
Which? also compares the supermarkets when doing a bigger shop. The number of items varies month to month but in October, Asda was the cheapest for 164 items at £418.71 and Waitrose was the most expensive at £461.10 which is a whopping difference of £42.40 and around 10%.
