Tension and anger as Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer berated during visit to lay wreath in Southport

Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer was berated by some in a crowd as he visited Southport today to lay a wreath after three young girls were stabbed to death at a Taylor Swift-themed holiday club. The PM's visit came as they were named as six-year-old Bebe King, seven-year-old Elsie Dot Stancombe and Alice Dasilva Aguiar, aged nine.

Eight other children suffered stab wounds sustained during the attack - with five of them said to be in a critical condition in hospital. Two adults are also in a critical condition after being injured 'bravely' trying to save children during the horror incident. Police, meanwhile, are continuing to question a 17 year-old boy arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder.

Sir Keir was accompanied by the chief constable of Merseyside Police, Serena Kennedy, Emily Spurrell, Merseyside's Police and Crime Commissioner and the mayor of Liverpool city region, Steve Rotheram.

But the brief visit, lasting barely two minutes, was marred by hostile shouts from some watching members of the public.

He laid down his wreath and stood momentarily in silence, but more than one person shouted: "How many more Starmer? When are you going to do something?"

The PM was then ushered back to his waiting car by his security detail, which then left in convoy. "You've got your photo, you're leaving now,"
