'Make it make sense' - Man City fans stunned after Phil Foden decision vs Sheffield United

Manchester City fans have greeted today's team selection against Sheffield United with puzzlement after Phil Foden was dropped to the bench.

Foden was the star performer for City last weekend in their narrow 1-0 victory over Newcastle United. However, reports on social media claimed this week the Stockport-born midfielder could miss out at Bramall Lane.

The midfielder did make the squad for the game against the Blades but to many people's surprise, City have chosen to start him on the bench. Instead, the Blues have opted to bring back Bernardo Silva into the midfield with an attacking trio of Julian Alvarez, Jack Grealish and Erling Haaland.

Unsurprisingly, questions have been raised regarding this decision and City fans have aired their frustrations on social media. MEN Sport has gathered what several fans have been tweeting on X.

Elsewhere, with Pep Guardiola in Barcelona recovering, Juanma Lillo will be in the dugout with what is believed to be a constant line of communication to the Catalan boss. Manuel Akanji misses out as was expected meaning starts for Nathan Ake and Josko Gvardiol.

At this stage, it is unclear whether Ake or Gvardiol will be playing at left-back this afternoon but City's official social media graphic positioned the former as the centre-back. On the bench for the Blues today is James McAtee who will be hopeful of minutes at his old stomping ground.

The midfielder spent last season on loan at Sheffield United helping them gain promotion to the Premier League.

The Puma home shirt features the traditional sky blue colour but has slightly darker blue detailed stripes across the front which take inspiration from the Etihad Stadium's walkways.
