Swansea City transfer news as Russell Martin spotted watching target and Plymouth pitch wrecked in bizarre circumstances

Swansea City boss Russell Martin was in attendance at the Cardiff City Stadium as Wales secured their place at the upcoming World Cup in Qatar.

Martin was afforded a chance to cast a first-hand glance over summer target Joe Allen, with the Swans boss making little secret of his desire to bring the Wales international on board ahead of the new season.

Allen is out of contract at current club Stoke City, and a number of clubs are understood to be monitoring his availability. Stoke are in talks over a possible new deal that could keep him in the Potteries, but it seems unlikely any decision will be made on his future until the end of current schedule of international fixtures.

Wales are set to take on the Netherlands on Wednesday night before hosting Belgium. They then travel to Rotterdam to face the Dutch again the following Tuesday.

Plymouth Argyle have reported significant damage to their pitch after a tractor was driven across the playing surface at Home Park.

Intruders broke into the 18,600-capacity stadium on Saturday night, before accessing the garage, where they started up a tractor used for groundwork.

A statement from the League One club read: “This work comes at additional cost to the club and places our grounds team under further pressure, with an already tight turnaround for scheduled pre-season matches.

“The club will also be upscaling security at the stadium to ensure that this does not happen again. Of course, this adds further expense, deviating vital funds away from enhancing the stadium, squad and match-day experience at Argyle.
