Swansea City dumped out of FA Cup after penalty shootout defeat to West Brom
Swansea City are out of the FA Cup after a penalty shootout defeat to West Bromwich Albion at the Swansea.com Stadium.
Eom Jisung gave the hosts the lead just after the break by curling home his second goal of the season, before Josh Maja scrambled an equaliser over the line five minutes later.
Neither side could be separate in the 90, and extra-time yielded a healthy dose of cup drama in a contest that started to toed and froed.
Malick Yalcouye struck the post, before Jed Wallace handed the visitors a dramatic lead in the second half of extra-time, only for Zeidane Inoussa to pop up moments later to net his first Swans goal and send the contest to penalties.
In a penalty shootout that had seen both sides miss, Yalcouye skied his decisive kick over the bar, with Oliver Bostock then blasting home to confirm Albion's place in round four.
Swansea boss Vitor Matos has pledged to name a strong team for this clash, Swansea's third with the Baggies in just over a month, and their second in SA1 in the space of 10 days.
And despite making five changes from the defeat to Millwall last week, he largely delivered on that promise, with new signing Joel Ward starting from the bench following his arrival on a free transfer this week.
West Brom were similarly strong despite interim boss James Morrison making six alterations himself from the defeat to Leicester City, a result that ultimately cost Ryan Mason his job.
But the relative strength of these two sides was arguably at odds with what was a largely understated first half, with chances initially at a premium.
Daryl Dike curled narrowly over for the visitors after 11 minutes following a well worked counter, but excitement was otherwise in short supply for much of the opening 25
