Swansea City 2-1 Derby County: Joel Piroe brace earns Russell Martin's men third consecutive Championship win
Joel Piroe struck twice as Swansea City sealed three consecutive Championship wins for the first time under Russell Martin courtesy of a 2-1 triumph against Derby County.
The Dutchman took his tally to 20 for the season with a pair of typically cool finishes in the early stages at the Swansea.com Stadium. Wales international Tom Lawrence got Wayne Rooney's side back into it from the penalty spot midway inside the opening half.
But, in truth, the Swans were generally comfortable and deservedly claimed all three points to move up to 13th in the Championship standings with what was their fourth victory in five outings.
Russell Martin made just one change to the side that started the 1-0 win over Millwall four days earlier as Jamie Paterson came in for Ryan Manning in a move that saw Hannes Wolf return to wing-back. They went into the game having claimed 10 of the last 12 points on offer, and they appeared destined to continue that fine run after what was a blistering start in the Swansea sunshine.
Piroe - fresh from his winner in London - coolly volleyed home Wolf's cross after just eight minutes to hand the Swans the lead. It soon got better for Martin's men as, after a vital touch from Jay Fulton, Swansea got on the attack high up the pitch.
Michael Obafemi was unable to get a shot away, although the ball trickled to Piroe who curled into the far corner to make it 2-0 after only 16 minutes. In completing his brace, the Dutchman became only the seventh player to hit 20 or more goals in a single campaign for the Swans since the club's stadium move in 2005.
The Swans were brimming with confidence, and the shell-shocked Derby supporters must have been fearing the worst on a day where their side could ill-afford a slip-up in
