Swansea City 0-1 Watford: Pedersen goal ruled out as hosts slip to controversial defeat

Ken Sema's stunning late strike condemned Swansea City to a controversial defeat at the hands of Watford at the Swansea.com Stadium.

Kristian Pedersen thought he'd given the hosts after rising highest to head home a Matt Grimes corner midway through the first half, only for the effort to be chalked off for an apparent foul.

Sema then came off the bench to rattle home a winner from the edge of the box seven minutes from time, condemning the Swans to back-to-back defeats.

Michael Duff, who opted for three changes from the defeat to Leicester City on Saturday, may well be within his rights to be a little frustrated by the Pedersen decision, but in truth his side probably didn't do quite enough to claim all three points against the Hornets.

That said, Swansea initially showed signs of recapturing the sort of front-foot approach that drove their previous run of four straight wins, against a Watford side that had previously failed to register a league win in the road in 14 attempts. Harry Darling spurned a great chance to give his side an early lead by flashing a free header wide from a pinpoint Jamie Paterson cross.

However, Watford created their fair share of chances too. Swans goalkeeper Carl Rushworth had to be alert to deny Tom Ince, but would have surely been breathing a sigh of relief moments after selling Jay Fulton a poor pass inside his own area. Ismael Kone then nipped in and teed up by Edo Kayembe, who whistled a low effort just past the post.

Grimes then looked to add to his tally for the season with an audacious effort from distance after spotting Daniel Bachmann off his line, but couldn't quite get enough on it.
