Cardiff City demolish Huddersfield Town to get back to winning ways in ruthless style

Cardiff City got back to winning ways as they beat Huddersfield Town 4-0 in an utterly dominant display in West Yorkshire.

A goal from the returning Callum Robinson inside two minutes got the Bluebirds off to a dream start, before Dimitrios Goutas doubled their lead and Yakou Meite made it three just before half-time.

A desperate Darren Moore rolled the dice at the break as he threw on four replacements, but the changes weren’t enough as a screamer of a free-kick from Perry Ng secured his side’s biggest win of the season, which sends Erol Bulut’s men into the playoff places.

Having lost on the road to Middlesbrough and Blackburn either side of a 1-1 draw at home to Watford, Cardiff arrived at the John Smith Stadium looking for their first win in October, and Bulut made his intentions clear by naming an attacking side and making two changes from the defeat at Ewood Park

Despite claiming last week that he had “problems” with Robinson, Bulut handed the Republic of Ireland star his first league start of the season, with Meite also returning as Ryan Wintle and Ike Ugbo were dropped to the bench.

And the striker didn’t waste any time in grasping his opportunity as he stunned the Terriers and gave his side the lead after just 90 seconds, diverting Josh Bowler’s cross past Lee Nicholls in the Huddersfield net.

Bowler was buzzing with confidence from the off and made his impact felt straight away as he beat Yuta Nakayama down the right side before squaring it to Robinson, whose neat flick took a deflection off Matty Pearson to leave Nicholls without a chance.
