Swansea City 0-1 Luton Town: Harry Cornick strike inflicts more misery on Russell Martin's outfit
Swansea City's frustrations continued as they were beaten 1-0 by Luton Town.
Fewer than 24 hours after an underwhelming transfer deadline day reached its climax, the Swans dominated possession and carved out some decent openings against the Bedfordshire outfit.
But substitute Harry Cornick struck the only goal of the game just nine minutes after being summoned from the bench in the second half to inflict a second consecutive defeat on Russell Martin's side.
The head coach made wholesale changes to the team that started in the 2-0 loss to Hull City last time out, the most notable of which saw goalkeeper Andy Fisher make his first start for the club in place of Ben Hamer.
Michael Obafemi, Olivier Ntcham, Ryan Bennett and Flynn Downes all played from the outset, with Joel Piroe, Joel Latibeaudiere and Korey Smith dropping to the bench.
The Hatters made a bright start and could have taken an early lead had Allan Campbell been able to guide Amari'i Bell's cross on target.
But the hosts soon settled and swiftly set about lifting the tempo to take advantage of the space left behind Luton's press.
Downes and Cyrus Christie combined well on the right flank as Ntcham saw his shot cleared, although Swansea carved out an even more glorious opportunity minutes later.
Captain Matt Grimes sliced the Luton defence wide open with a pass to Obafemi who poked the ball goalwards, only for James Shea to fling his legs out to clear the ball.
Grimes was taking full control of midfield, and he fed Hannes Wolf who had a shot blocked as Swansea were showing real signs of clicking in attack.
But their rhythm was halted when Kyle Naughton had to be replaced by Korey Smith midway through the first half after suffering an injury.
It was no doubt a huge concern
