Suspected shooting 'linked to van being smashed' on same street nine months ago

A suspected shooting on a street in Stockport last week is 'linked to a vehicle being damaged' on the same street last year, the Manchester Evening News understands.

On Sunday night (March 12), police responded 'to reports of a suspected firearms discharge at a property' on Dorac Avenue in the Heald Green area. No injuries were reported.

Officers said the incident is being treated as 'isolated' with no threat 'to the wider community'. An investigation is underway.

On the same street on July 7 last year, police launched an investigation following 'reports of possible gunshots'. No injuries were reported in this incident, which transpired to be suspected criminal damage caused to a vehicle.

A van, which appeared to have a shattered windscreen, was taped off inside a cordon on the street as part of the investigation. The M.E.N understands that Greater Manchester Police are treating the incident on July 7 last year and the incident on March 12 as linked.

In a first statement on the suspected shooting issued today (Wednesday), a GMP spokesperson said: "At around 9:45pm on Sunday 12 March, Greater Manchester Police were called to reports of a suspected firearms discharge at a property on Dorac Avenue, Cheadle.

"Officers attended but thankfully no injuries were reported. This is being treated as an isolated incident and it is believed there is no threat to the wider community.

"Extra officers have been deployed to the area to carry out enquiries and offer reassurance to local residents."
