Supercomputer predicts Bolton Wanderers, Derby County & Sheffield Wednesday's promotion chances

Bolton Wanderers have been given a 12 per cent chance of achieving automatic promotion out of League One to the Championship this season, according to Reach's in-house supercomputer.

The Whites will soon begin their second season back in the third tier of English football on the road to Ipswich Town. Ian Evatt's side won promotion back to the division following a top three finish in League Two in the 2020/21 season.

Last campaign, Wanderers ended the season with a top 10 finish with a final position of ninth and 10 points from the play-offs. The Whites are aiming to bridge that gap this campaign and challenge for the top six in earnest.

And for this season, according to our in-house supercomputer, Bolton's chances of finishing this season as champions stands at five per cent. Chances of a top two finish for Wanderers stands at 12 per cent.

In terms of being champions, Wycombe Wanderers have the greatest chance according to our calculations at 47 per cent. Sheffield Wednesday's chances stand at 11 per cent, while Derby's are tipped to be two per cent.

When it comes to the playoffs, Wanderers have a 35 per cent chance of making them. MK Dons have been given a 42 per cent chance of reaching them, while for Oxford it's 41 per cent, for Peterborough 35 per cent, Charlton 27 per cent, Derby 25 per cent and Barnsley 20 per cent.

At the other end of the table. Bristol Rovers have an almost 100% chance of going straight back down to League Two according to the supercomputer. Only a handful of its simulations had the Gas staying up this season.
