Supercomputer delivers Championship promotion verdict with Sheffield United's fate still to play for

FiveThirtyEight have released their latest forecasts for how they expect the Championship will finish, with Sheffield United predicted to end the season in sixth position.

The Blades currently occupy the division final play-off position at present following their recent 1-0 home win over Cardiff City last weekend.

Paul Heckingbottom's side now just have two games remaining before the completion of the 21/22 regular season, with a trip to Loftus Road the penultimate game before United host champions-elect Fulham in South Yorkshire on the final day.

Given the Blades superb upturn in form since the turn of the year, the side have won just one of their last four games domestically, with work still to be done to guarantee a top six finish.

However, following data collected by FiveThirtyEight, United are predicted to finish in sixth position as they currently stand and forecast to register four points from their final two games.

Also given the second best chance at promotion back to the Premier League with 22%, it is no wonder Steve Cooper's Nottingham Forest are ahead just slightly with 39% given their own recent joyous run of results as of late.

Fellow Yorkshire outfit Huddersfield Town secured their place in the play-off's last week with victory over rivals Barnsley that saw them relegated to League One too, with Luton Town forecast to make up the final top six finish.

If the site's predictions are to serve them right, it would be the Terriers that United would face off against, with recent results this season suggesting a tough test is on its way, given their 2-1 defeat and 0-0 draw against the side already this campaign.
