Sunderland 'keen' to sign maestro with 'wow factor'; his ability left Gary Neville stunned

Sunderland are reportedly now ‘keen’ on signing Derby County midfielder Ravel Morrison this summer.

Morrison was able to revive his footballing career at Derby County last season, where he scored five goals and made a further four assists in 38 games in total over all competitions (Transfermarkt).

His attitude has been put into question throughout his career, and at 29 years of age now, it is a case of what could have been for the former Manchester United Academy starlet.

Taking to Twitter, journalist Pete O’Rourke has revealed that the Stadium of Light outfit are now ‘keen’ on signing Morrison, whose contract with the Rams expires at the end of the month.

Championship rivals Preston North End and Huddersfield Town are also in the mix.

“Preston North End, Huddersfield Town and Sunderland are keen on signing Ravel Morrison on a free transfer.”

Of course, it is a risk for any club to sign Morrison given his past, but he seems to have cleaned up his act now, and so signing him on a free is worth a punt for Alex Neil’s team.

Former Sheffield United teammate Enda Stevens claims that he still has a ‘wow factor‘, while Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville once dubbed his ability a ‘scandal‘ upon reflection of watching him develop at Old Trafford.

There is no doubt that there is still a player in there, and it will be up to Neil to get the best out of him should he sign for the Black Cats.
