Gary Neville tells Manchester United what they must do to avoid Cristiano Ronaldo transfer 'saga'

Gary Neville has told Manchester United that they must decide to deal with the Cristiano Ronaldo news 'quickly and decisively' to ensure that it does not turn into a 'saga'.

Reports have emerged that the Portuguese superstar has made the club aware of his decision to leave this summer, in order to continue to play Champions League football.

The 37-year-old made a sensational return to Old Trafford, scoring 18 in the Premier League (Bruno Fernandes was the only other player to reach double figures) and six in Europe. Should Ronaldo leave the club, United will certainly need to replace his goals. However, his wages would likely free up available cash to spend on a potential replacement.

Ronaldo, who was scheduled to return to training at Carrington today but postponed it due to family reasons, remains in Portugal at this time - adding fuel to the fire that he may leave the club.

New manager Erik ten Hag has now taken over training, with the club set to travel to Thailand later this week to begin the club's pre-season tour.

And Neville has stated that Ten Hag will not want this drag on whilst he begins to rebuild his side.

Neville tweeted: "The only important factor with the Ronaldo situation is that it’s dealt with decisively and quickly. This can’t be a saga that takes the focus away from ETH bedding in period for the next two months."
