Sunderland being ‘patient’ despite Keane having ‘strong backroom support’

Sunderland are willing to be “patient” in their search for a new manager amid reports linking Manchester United legend Roy Keane with the vacancy.

Keane was previously Sunderland’s manager between 2006 and 2008. He is said to be among several candidates being considered.

Owner Kyril Louis-Dreyfus and sporting director Kristjaan Speakman are not limiting their options. They are also understood to have spoken to Grant McCann and Alex Neil. Despite this, PA News Agency are reporting that Keane has ‘strong backroom support’ at Sunderland.
