Roy Keane's tells Sunderland training story of how he put £8,000 on the line and didn't lose a penny

Roy Keane really doesn’t suffer fools lightly.

The no-nonsense Sky pundit has become a box office hit in recent years thanks to his brutally honest takes on certain states of affairs within football.

While he often comes across as a bit of a grouch, the former Manchester United man has a vast football IQ, his tactical analysis is always spot on and his penchant to speak his mind is often a breath of fresh air.

As he player he was no different, filling the shoes off Sir Alex Ferguson’s midfield enforcer with alarming menace and nous.

When he retired and transitioned into management it was no different as his players and the general media were smacked with some truly frosty comments and rants.

During his Sunderland days, in particular, Keane was openly critical of club-record signing Craig Gordon who had struggled in goal for the Black Cats.

However, while he is quick to criticise, it doesn’t mean Roy can’t back up his words with actions.

He proved that exact point while manager of Sunderland on a day in which he had had his fill of standing on the sidelines.

Writing in his autobiography. Roy recounted the brilliant story of how he wagered his players a significant amount of money, strapped on some gloves, and stepped into goal during a training session.
