Roy Keane to Sunderland: What does he offer? What EFL experience does he have? Can he get them promoted?

Sunderland’s managerial search has come down to two candidates, Football League World exclusively learnt yesterday.

The report states that Roy Keane and Grant McCann are the two options that the Sunderland hierarchy are considering as things stand.

However, sources exclusively revealed to Football League World that Keane’s wage demands could be pivotal in the final decision that the League One outfit make.

The 50-year-old, who currently plys his trade with Sky Sports as a pundit, enjoyed a successful playing career with Manchester United and has already been at the helm at The Stadium of Light before.

What does he offer?

As consistently displayed on Sky Sports, Keane has an extensive footballing knowledge, and he possesses the leadership skills required to help guide The Black Cats back to the second tier.

He is someone that adopts a no nonsense approach to football, and that has been displayed both during his playing career and when managing a club.

Keane will be confident that he could see instant success at The Stadium of Light, with the Black Cats in an excellent position to kick on and compete for automatic promotion.

What EFL experience does he have?

Keane kickstarted his managerial career with the Wearsiders back in 2006, with Sunderland operating in the Championship at that time.

After a poor start to the season, under Niall Quinn’s reign, Keane was tasked with steadying the ship at The Stadium of Light, however, he surpassed all expectations by securing promotion that year.

The 50-year-old also has managed Ipswich Town in the EFL, before taking a role with Ireland’s national team.

Keane has also held an assistant position at both Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest, leaving his role with the Reds back in January
