Stuart Kettlewell in raging ref rant as Motherwell boss 'sick fed up' after 2 Aberdeen VAR calls

Seething Stuart Kettlewell says he’s “sick fed up” of VAR after seeing two controversial handball calls go against his side.

Motherwell were hoping to boost their top-six ambitions by making it a hat-trick of wins as they hosted Aberdeen. Instead, they’ve been left looking over their shoulder after falling 1-0 at Fir Park thabks to Leighton Clarkson’s first-half strike. Kettlewell’s frustrations were not helped by the part VAR played in the end result.

Lennon Miller thought he’d equalised soon after the Dons’ opener - only for the telly officials to step in and rule it out because Blair Spittal’s corner delivery had brushed Theo Bair’s hand on its way through to the Steelmen’s scorer. Clydesdale House were on the phone again in stoppage-time as they took a look at replays showing the ball hitting Graeme Shinnie’s arm - but decided against awarding the hosts a last-gasp spot-kick.

A furious Kettlewell said: “I’m sick fed up of it, I honestly am. It’s not just emotional because we’ve lost a game of football. I’m completely at a loss.

“We had a situation against Ross County (during the 3-3 draw back in October) where the ball is quite clearly controlled by a County arm. The hand is above the head, player controls the ball, it falls to him, he shifts it inside the pitch and it results in a goal.

“We were told categorically that because it wasn’t the goalscorer, they don’t look at that again. This is where I’m very factual, I stand corrected and don’t talk about it again.
