Striker Chris Dickson has left Sittingbourne after a mutual agreement to part ways having joined them in mid-July and spending pre-season at the Isthmian South East club

Sittingbourne manager Ryan Maxwell has explained the decision to part ways with striker Chris Dickson - just three weeks after his signing was announced.

Dickson, 40, joined the Brickies in mid-July, having fired Horham to the Isthmain Premier Division title last season, scoring 20 goals in all competitions, with 14 in the league.

Maxwell had admired the striker for some time, and previously tried to sign him, so was keen to make a deal happen when the opportunity came up this summer. Dickson scored twice in a pre-season win over Soul Tower Hamlets.

Dickson - a former Charlton and Gillingham striker - is back on the hunt for a new club, however, as Maxwell took the sensible decision to part ways early once it was decided that the move wasn’t going to work out.

“We have decided to part ways with Chris Dixon,” the manager said.

“That's purely because of the situation that we're in, and what we're looking to do in terms of our style.

“Chris being such a great pro. Chris has done his hard yards in the game and I respect him. We had a very good chat about it.

“Also, a little bit of travel being a slight issue, getting there for training as well. Whereas something a little bit more closer to home, I think will suit him. He deserves that.

“He's gone with our absolute best wishes.”

The club would like to take this opportunity to wish Chris Dickson all the best as we have agreed to mutually part ways.
