Sheppey United thrashed Eastbourne United 9-0 in the FA Cup and host Hassocks to Holm Park in the FA Trophy preliminary round this Saturday before Sittingbourne visit for an Isthmian South East match on Monday.

Sheppey United boss Kevin Watson says his players must enjoy Saturday’s stunning 9-0 victory - but not let it lead to complacency.

The Ites thrashed Eastbourne United in the FA Cup preliminary round, with Rolando Onu and Jacob Lambert both bagging hat-tricks. They have been drawn away to Westfield in the next round.

A busy period of games sees Sheppey welcome league rivals Hassocks to Holm Park in an FA Trophy preliminary round clash this Saturday before Sittingbourne visit for an Isthmian South East derby match on Monday.

Last weekend’s scoreline was one to savour.

“Those don’t come around often, do they?” said Watson. “There’s an element where you have to take it, enjoy it and embrace it, and I think it’s really good, especially for the fan base, to see their team win by a scoreline like that.

“I think from the players’ perspective, it should give confidence, but then you’re just balancing out the confidence in that you don’t want any complacency off the back of that, because it’s a one-off result.”

The manager felt his side were ruthless in front of goal against their Step 5 opponents. Danny Leonard also scored twice and Dan Bradshaw hit a stoppage-time ninth.

Watson said “There’s a degree of sympathy for the opposition, because it’s not nice to be on the receiving end of a scoreline like that.

“We’ve created opportunities in all the games we’ve played and I think there was the additional aspect of us being a little more clinical on Saturday.”

The manager also reminded supporters that this was a newly-assembled squad, still in transition.

He said: “We’ve got to remember that we haven’t been working with these lads for that long.

“It’s a newly assembled squad. It’s a transition period for the club.
