Strictly Come Dancing's Amy Dowden makes determined vow as she waits for results after mastectomy in cancer update

Strictly Come Dancing star Amy Dowden has made a determined vow as she awaits more results following her recent mastectomy. The Welsh dancer shared last month how she'd found a lump which was later confirmed as stage 3 breast cancer.

Amy, who has appeared on the BBC's hit dance show since 2017, first discovered a lump in her right breast in April, the day before she and her husband Ben Jones flew to the Maldives for their belated honeymoon. After being aware of the lump while trying to enjoy her dream trip with her husband, she previously shared how she started to "check it less" out of worry.

But it wasn't until she was back at home and getting ready for a dance show that she noticed the lump in her right breast had become bigger and went to the doctors where she was quickly referred and told the news she had breast cancer.

Amy has since undergone surgery and over the weekend, she spoke movingly for the first time after surgeons removed her right breast. The 32-year-old is now waiting to hear this week what stage of cancer the resulting analysis reveals, and therefore whether she will need solely radiotherapy treatment, or chemotherapy, too.

But Amy has made it clear that she will be present on our screens either way when Strictly returns this autumn. "If I only have radiotherapy I’ll be back on Strictly this season," she told the Mirror. "Once radiotherapy is done there’ll be nothing to stop me, there’s no pressure but Strictly is leaving the door open. It’s having something to work towards.
