Storm Lilian LIVE traffic updates with M6 blocked by fallen tree and roads shut - latest

A fallen tree is blocking a stretch of the M6 motorway this morning amid strong winds brought by Storm Lilian.

The storm is sweeping over the UK this morning, bringing windy and wet weather with strong gusts of up to 60mph forecast in our region. You can read the full hour-by-hour borough-by-borough weather forecast here.

Drivers have been urged to take extra care on the roads this morning, with an issue already reported on the M6 motorway. A tree has fallen across the carriageway on the northbound side between J19 and J20, near the exit for the M56.

Two lanes are currently blocked and traffic is currently queuing for around three miles up to the incident. A post on X this morning from the Bee Network said: "Storm Lilian - a @metoffice yellow weather warning is in place for strong winds until 11:00. If you're travelling on the network this morning, please plan ahead and take extra care."

National Highways said: "#StormLilian is coming. Strong winds could impact the region overnight into Friday morning. Slow down to minimise the impact of wind gusts. Be aware of high sided vehicles on more exposed roads."

Lanes two and three are now open on the M6.

One lane remains shut, with delays at least an hour up to the incident.

UPDATE - Lanes 2 and 3 (of 3) are now open on the #M6 northbound between J19 (#Tabley) and J20 (#M56).

Lane 1 remains closed whilst our contractors work to clear the debris.
