The warning also covers Merseyside, Lancashire, Cumbria, the North East, Scotland and Northern Ireland, plus parts of Cheshire, North Wales and Yorkshire.

Northern says trains across its network will face disruption today, with some routes running a reduced service, while TransPennine Express and Avanti West Coast have issued a 'do not travel' warning in the worst affected areas.
