Stone Cold Steve Austin: People in WWE believe legend’s shock WrestleMania match ‘is happening’

Stone Cold Steve Austin‘s return to the ring “is happening”, at least if people within WWE are to be believed.

Late last night, it was reported that WWE is going to be trying to bring Stone Cold Steve Austin back to wrestling for a match at WrestleMania.

Austin’s hasn’t wrestled since WrestleMania XIX in 2003 for his match against The Rock, but WWE is hoping he ends his 19-year hiatus in April.

Many fans were sceptical of the report, believing that while WWE may want to bring Austin in for a match, they simply wouldn’t be able to get it over the line.

However, a new report has come out which indicates that, at least in the eyes of WWE, a Steve Austin WrestleMania match is very much happening.

Dave Meltzer notes on the latest Wrestling Observer Radio that he’s been given the impression that Austin’s in-ring return is very much “on”.

Meltzer also explains that while Austin’s return may not be a “done deal”, people backstage at Raw were speaking like it was:

“The impression I have is the match is on. I know that backstage at WWE all day, that’s all I kept hearing about. Not ‘all’ I kept hearing about, but, I heard it early in the day and then kept checking around and more people were saying they heard the same thing. I don’t know that it’s a done deal, but people were talking like it was.”

The report goes on to state that people within WWE are under the impression that Austin will be having a match at WrestleMania on either April 2 or 3.

“Like I said, I was not told that it was a done deal, but people were under the assumption that it was, and that promo clearly tells you that they are booking with the idea that it is happening.”
