Stirling Albion boss Darren Young praises team for showing against promotion-chasing Forfar Athletic

Stirling Albion boss Darren Young praised his team for their performance in Tuesday’s 1-1 draw with second-placed Forfar Athletic at Forthbank.

A Craig Slater free-kick gave Gary Irvine’s side an early lead but Kieran Moore set up Dale Carrick to score his fifth goal of the season with a 65th-minute equaliser.

Albion Rovers are due to visit tomorrow – weather permitting – and will make the short journey boosted by an impressive 2-1 victory away to fourth-placed Edinburgh City on Tuesday.

That was a first win of 2022 for Brian Reid’s team, who beat Stirling 1-0 in Coatbridge three months ago but were defeated 2-1 on their previous visit to Forthbank at the end of August.

There are just two points between the sides in the cinch League 2 table but the Binos will be desperate to end their long wait for a home league win after an encouraging display against Forfar.

Binos boss Young said: “It was frustrating because the players didn’t think it was a free-kick that led to the goal – it was a great finish to be fair but for large parts of the game we did very well. It might be looked upon as a good point but we were looking for all three, especially at home.

“The work rate and desire is there no matter what and it was great to get the goal because we had spoken about getting down the sides and putting balls into the box. Kieran Moore does brilliant and fires the ball across and it’s a good touch and finish from Dale Carrick.

“Their goalkeeper had an unbelievable save in the first half and we had something like 14 shots in the game and we need to improve that conversion rate. I thought the hold-up play from Dylan Mackin was brilliant and young Dylan Paterson was unlucky on a few occasions.
