Steven Gerrard in Aston Villa transfer plea as Manchester United eye £50m move
Steven Gerrard has once again spoken about how important John McGinn is for his Aston Villa plans.
McGinn has been heavily linked with a move away from Villa Park with Manchester United and Liverpool both said to be keen on the Villa star in a £50 million deal.
The 27 year-old has only missed two matches since Gerrard took over Dean Smith in November and is a key player for Villa.
He has been one of Villa 's better performers in their current winning streak that stretches back three games, the most recent win coming at Leeds United on Thursday night.
McGinn, who signed for Villa in 2018 and helped his side to promotion a year later, has been heavily linked with a move away from Villa Park.
Under contract until June 2025, McGinn has not expressed a desire to leave the club nor will Villa owners Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens want to sell another key player after the departure of Jack Grealish in August.
Gerrard, meanwhile, has said that keeping hold of a player of McGinn's calibre is key if Villa are to progress.
"We use the phrase 'all in' with John because he gives it all to the cause," Gerrard said.
