Bruno Fernandes names the Manchester United youngster he is excited to play with the most

Attacking midfielder Bruno Fernandes has identified James Garner as the youngster he is looking forward to playing with most at Manchester United.

The Portuguese international has made the admission after putting pen to paper on a new long-term contract at Old Trafford. He has signed a fresh deal to keep him at the club until the summer of 2026, plus the option of an additional year.

Fernandes joined United in January 2020 from Portuguese giants Sporting Lisbon and has proven to be an inspired addition. In 117 appearances for the club, he has scored 49 goals and registered 39 assists.

This season, despite not being at the very, very top of his game, the attacking midfielder, who scored twice against North Macedonia on Tuesday evening to clinch Portugal's spot at the 2022 World Cup, has still registered 23 direct goal contributions. He has scored nine times and claimed 14 assists.

Having committed his long-term future to United, Fernandes is poised to play, at some point, alongside a wealth of talent that is knocking on the door of the first team. And for the former Sporting ace, it is Garner, who has excelled on loan at Championship side Nottingham Forest this term, that he is relishing playing alongside most.

Participating in a Twitter Q&A to celebrate his new deal, Fernandes was asked: "#AskBruno, who's the player from the academy that you really look forward to playing with one day?"

Fernandes, issuing a two-word response, said: "James Garner." The England Under-21 international has been outstanding for Forest this season, playing a key role in their transformation from being relegation candidates to genuine promotion
