Steven Gerrard confirms fresh Aston Villa injury blow for Arsenal as Lucas Digne update revealed

Steven Gerrard has confirmed left-back Lucas Digne will miss Aston Villa's clash against Arsenal on Saturday, while Kortney Hause will also be unavailable for selection through injury.

Villa host an Arsenal side looking to cement their place in the top four this weekend, with Mikel Arteta's men keen to bounce back from a 2-0 defeat to title chasers Liverpool in midweek. They will face a tough task against Gerrard's Villa though, with the club looking to end the season in a positive light.

A defeat to Champions League hopefuls West Ham United at the London Stadium last weekend ended a three-match unbeaten run, as Villa began to climb the table with three wins over Brighton, Southampton and Leeds United. And ahead of the latest test against Arsenal, Gerrard has confirmed he will have to make at least one alteration to the team that started against David Moyes' Hammers.

“Lucas Digne will miss the game tomorrow," he said. "He’s nursing a hamstring issue. I don’t think the issue is too big, so he won’t be out for too long. He’ll join up and be assessed by France, having been called up. I think he’ll be a big doubt for the first game and an outside chance for their second game. He’ll obviously miss tomorrow’s game for us.

“Marvelous Nakamba will be in full training for us after the international break, which is positive. He’s not too far away and he’ll do certain sessions with our Under-23 group next week.

"We’ll integrate him into the first team set-up. That’s good news for us. Kortney Hause has got an abdominal issue and he’ll be missing tomorrow as well."
