The end of the Premier League season promises to be an encapsulating finale to what has been an intriguing soap opera of a title race.

The two protagonists Manchester City and Liverpool head into the final day of the campaign still with hopes of lifting the trophy. Pep Guardiola’s men currently hold a slender advantage to run-away with the hero's role, whilst the Reds are in close pursuit to become champions for the second time in 30 years.

However, there is an intriguing side-story set to take place on Sunday, with former Reds’ midfielder Steven Gerrard at the heart of proceedings. The Liverpool icon takes his Aston Villa side to the Etihad Stadium on the final day of the season and should the Villans take any points off of Guardiola’s men, then that would certainly open the door for the Reds, who take on Wolverhampton Wanderers at Anfield.

Some have suggested that the former midfielder would have added motivation to see Villa claim maximum points at the Etihad Stadium to hand the opportunity to the Reds, especially considering that he failed to claim a league title in his hugely successful spell on Merseyside. However, former Man Utd defender Gary Neville disputes those claims and has suggested that the Birmingham outfit - and indeed Gerrard - will see their trip to Manchester as nothing more than another Premier
