Steven Gerrard adds Rangers trophy touch to birthday wish for Celtic coach's wife and punters love it
Steven Gerrard has wished the wife of Celtic coach Harry Kewell a happy birthday, but could not resist adding a Rangers touch to proceedings.
The Al-Ettifaq manager crossed the derby divide when he signed former Hoops boys Jack Hendry, and more prominently hitman for Brendan Rodgers in Moussa Dembele for his new Saudi side. The Liverpool icon made the jump to the Middle East after being sacked at Aston Villa following a poor run of form. That came after three-plus years at Rangers that saw him secure the Scottish Premiership, as Celtic failed to reach the coveted ten-in-a-row.
And Gerrard has not forgotten how his bread is buttered in Glasgow, but may have sent a sly reminder to Hoops assistant Kewell, who joined the Scottish champions under previous boss Ange Postecoglou. The Aussie remains in post at Lennoxtown under new boss Rodgers, and Gerrard took to Instagram to wish his wife a happy birthday, using a group picture that includes Sheree Murphy holding the league title.
He posted on social media with the caption: "Happy birthday @shereevkewell," with a party emoji. Gerrard and Kewell played together at Liverpool for many years and won the Champions League on that famous night in Istanbul in 2005.
