Steve Morison speaks out about 31-year-old Cardiff City man’s future

The future of Sean Morrison is up in the air right now, with the player going down with an injury against Barnsley in the club’s last league clash.

It has since emerged that the 31-year-old suffered a knee injury and that not only is it bad, but it could rule him out of action for nearly a year.

It means that the defender’s future has been called into question – and boss Steve Morison has admitted to BBC Sport that it will be ‘a conversation’ that the manager and the board have to have.

It’s a real shame for the player, who is the club captain at Cardiff and is nearing the end of the deal. Whether the Bluebirds were prepared to offer him a new contract or not, he at least could have played right up until the expiration of his contract and had a good send off from the supporters.

However, he will now only be thinking about kicking a ball again come the end of 2022 – and that could mean he doesn’t kick a ball for the club again unless there is an arrangement between the player, manager and the board of the club.

Steve Morison has claimed though that it will be a conversation that he has with the Bluebirds’ board, telling BBC Sport: “It’s a nine-month injury and we will have to assess things as we go along. I am sure there will be a conversation at some point with the board about what we do because obviously he has been a big servant for the football club.”

There is every chance then that the defender could stay on at Cardiff so the club can help him in his rehabilitation, which is sure to be a long process for the player.
