Tommy Doyle makes admission about failed Man City loan and Cardiff City form

Manchester City youngster Tommy Doyle has been the talk of the town in Cardiff after a string of impressive performances for the Bluebirds.

Despite feeling on top of the world when Pep Guardiola offered Doyle a four-year contract at City in 2020, Doyle insits it feels just as good having the faith of Cardiff City manager Steve Morison as he tries to impress and ignite his career at the Championship side.

Doyle opened his Cardiff account against Huddersfield last night (Wednesday) but wasn’t able to prevent the Terriers running out as 2-1 winners after two late goals from Josh Koroma and Jonathan Russell.

The 20 year-old City midfielder was sent on loan to Hamburg in the second tier of German football on the final day of the summer window in August, though the loan in Germany didn’t come to any fruition as Doyle failed to start a single game.

A move back to English football and more familiar surroundings has certainly done the world of good for Doyle, who is basking in his improved form.

“I’m at a stage in my career where I feel I can only get better. When you have a manager who believes in you it’s a great feeling,” said Doyle.

“For one reason or another it didn’t work out for me in Germany, but I don’t regret the decision to go there. Everything happens for a reason and it didn’t dent the confidence I have in myself.

“I needed the trust of the manager in Hamburg to get a chance to play. If that had happened things might have been different.”

Doyle added that the disappointing loan spell in German football has helped him at Cardiff.

He said: “But any disappointment I felt over that experience only served to help me at Cardiff. It took me out of my comfort zone.”
