Steve Bruce makes West Brom transfer plan demand

New Baggies CEO Ron Gourlay announced earlier this week that the club will be setting up a new committee to assess and identify new signings. 

The club’s form in 2022 has suffered massively which has taken the team out of promotion contention.

Bruce was appointed at the start of February, but has only won one of his six games in charge with the side now 13th in the table. 

Bruce has urged the club to start planning ahead now for next season to try to get an advantage on their promotion rivals for the next campaign. 

“It’s vitally important to start early,” said Bruce, via Express & Star. 

“We would be wrong to not identify the Bosmans of this world because everyone else is.

“When you are in March you have to start planning.

“Loans – from the big clubs – always help when you are in the Championship.

“But usually they are a little bit later. Usually, clubs take their young ones away with them and then make a decision on whether they stay or go out on loan.

“But when it comes to who is available on a Bosman – we have got to be ahead of the game and target people who we think will improve us. And there are some good ones out there.”

A priority on players who are available on a free transfer at the end of the season would allow the club to start talks with players immediately.

It could also save costs as clubs still reckon with the financial hit of the pandemic, as well as West Brom’s own financial hit of dropping out of the Premier League. 

For now, West Brom next face Huddersfield Town on Friday evening as the Baggies look to close the eight point gap to the play-off places.
