"Imagine" - Journalist drops interesting Daryl Dike and Andy Carroll claim at West Brom

West Bromwich Albion striker Daryl Dike could strike up a fruitful Hawthorns partnership with fellow January arrival Andy Carroll when they return from injury, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

Steve Bruce took over as the Baggies’ manager last month, but Dike and Carroll headed to the Midlands prior to Valerien Ismael’s sacking after just seven months in charge.

Dike returned to English shores by making the £7million move from Major League Soccer side Orlando City.

The 21-year-old’s arrival was confirmed in the early stages of the January transfer window and allowed him to reunite with Ismael, having scored nine goals in 22 appearances under the Frenchman during a loan spell with Barnsley last year.

However, a hamstring injury has restricted Dike to just two outings in his new surroundings and resulted in him still searching for a maiden Albion goal.

Carroll headed to the Hawthorns after the eight-cap United States international’s setback, with him making the switch after his short-term contract with Reading had expired.

He got off the mark for the Baggies by finding the back of the net in the comeback draw against Huddersfield Town earlier this month, while he has gone on to feature nine times.

Bruce revealed a tendon issue resulted in Dike being unable to return to action at Bristol City just before the international break, while an injury also forced Carroll to miss out.

O’Rourke believes the duo will strike fear into opponents if they are deployed as a front two by West Brom.
