Journalist now drops big Dan James and Jack Harrison claim at Leeds, Marsch could wield axe

Dan James or Jack Harrison may have to make way at Leeds United if Jesse Marsch switches the team’s formation, claims journalist Pete O’Rourke.

The two were both regulars under former manager Marcelo Bielsa, but O’Rourke thinks Marsch’s arrival could see their game time drop.

James joined Leeds for £25m from Manchester United last summer in search for minutes and has got just that.

He was handed 22 league starts by Bielsa before the Argentine’s sacking, scoring four goals for the Whites.

Like the 24-year-old, Harrison was also heavily used by Bielsa this season. The English winger, who joined the club permanently from Manchester City in an £11m deal last July, played 23 times under the former Leeds boss and registered the same amount of goals as James.

It will now be interesting to see how Marsch utilises both players, with his predecessor having played James up front at times despite the Welshman being a wide man.

If Marsch decides to use a system with two strikers, with that being a preference for the American, O’Rourke thinks one of James or Harrison could be in trouble.

The transfer insider told GIVEMESPORT: “Someone like a Dan James or a Jack Harrison probably have to make way. If they’re going to play two up front, he can’t fit everybody in.”

While James or Harrison could be casualties of a formation switch at Elland Road, the likes of Rodrigo and Joe Gelhardt are likely to benefit if Marsch does end up using something like a 4-4-2 or 4-2-2-2.
