St Johnstone signing has Airdrie searching for a new No.1

Airdrie are searching for a new goalkeeper, after Josh Rae signed for Premiership side St Johnstone on a two-year deal.

The 23-year-old was ruled out of Airdrie's end to the season after suffering concussion in a clash against Inverness, and a subsequent bleed on the brain was discovered.

Robbie Hemfrey ended up between the sticks for the remaining few games, including play-off clashes against Partick Thistle, but he has since left the club, and their search for a first-choice keeper continues.

Rae told the St Johnstone website: "It has been a dream to play in the Premiership and hopefully I can play as many games as possible.

"My main aim is to do well for this club and help us move forward. At every level I've tried to do my best and work my way up. I now feel ready for this challenge."

Rae added: "I feel I did well at Airdrieonians. We were playing out from the back constantly and we managed to get a promotion and then the cup last season.

"I like to dominate my box and help the defenders out as much as possible.

"I've worked a lot of playing out from the back and I feel I am continuing to get better with that."

Rae follows strikers Calum Gallagher and Gabby McGill, assistant boss and defender Callum Fordyce and defender Cammy Ballantyne out the door from last season's Airdrie squad.
