Spurs transfer news: Tottenham 'will definitely be looking' at signing Djed Spence this summer

Transfer insider Dean Jones reckons that Tottenham will continue to monitor Djed Spence’s situation this summer.

Spurs were one of several Premier League clubs interested in signing the in-demand right-back in January, although he ended up staying with Nottingham Forest.

When Spence was sent out on loan by Neil Warnock last summer, he probably didn’t envisage having the likes of Tottenham, Arsenal and Leeds on his radar some six months later.

But his form has been outstanding since Steve Cooper replaced Chris Hughton in the City Ground dugout.

According to WhoScored, Spence has been Forest’s fifth-best player this season, but it’s been his performances in the FA Cup that have really caught the eye of the topflight.

In their third round win over Arsenal, the 21-year-old, valued at £15m by Middlesbrough, was named man of the match after a fine showing, in which he made one key pass, two tackles, three clearances and four interceptions, while proving a genuine threat in an attacking sense.

More evidence of that threat became apparent against Leicester on Sunday when he was firstly involved in Philip Zinckernagel’s opener before scoring his first FA Cup goal to seal an impressive 4-1 victory over their Midlands rivals, which led to ex-Foxes captain Wes Morgan calling describing him as a “constant threat”, while Ian Wright called him “swashbuckling” following their victory over Arsenal last month.

According to Sky Sports, Antonio Conte’s side were interested signing him the January following their uncertain situation at right wing-back, but Matt Doherty ended up staying at the club and Spence therefore remained on loan at Forest.
